New publication: How Workplace Social Support Facilitates Work Situations of Disabled Employees

A new article by Sophie Teborg, Lena Hünefeld and Tomke S. Gerdes has been published in the journal Work - A Journal of Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation. The publication is based on an interview study and sheds light on social support in the workplace for employees with disabilities. It was produced as part of a doctoral project at the Department of Work, Inclusion and Technology of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, which based on the research project "Quality of participation in working life - recording, describing and shaping the work situation of people with disabilities".
The publication shows how social support serves both as a work resource and as a driver for inclusion in the workplace. Based on interviews with 28 disabled employees, the study concludes that social support helps to reconcile individual needs with job requirements, break down barriers and strengthen a sense of belonging. By fostering an environment in which support is part of daily practice and not an exception, employers can promote sustainable employment and genuine participation of workers with disabilities.
