Quality of participation in working life
Recording, describing and shaping the work situation of people with disabilities
Participation in working life
In cooperation between the Research Unit Inclusion and Work of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), the research project has started on 01.01.2022 with the aim of recording the quality of participation in working life of people with impairments
By joining the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Germany has committed itself to enabling people with impairments to participate in all areas of life. This also includes the equal right to fair, safe and healthy working conditions. To date, there is still very little information available on the working conditions of people with impairments. This is not least due to the fact that the data situation in Germany is unclear and incomplete (data gap).
The little existing survey data that could provide such insight have hardly been used so far. In general, only the overall participation in the labor market is considered, without collecting more detailed information about the respective job and the quality of the work (utilization gap). It is therefore also unclear what the quality of participation is and which design potentials are still unused (knowledge and design gap).
With that in mind, the project is analyzing which survey data is already available to describe the working conditions of people with disabilities and which gaps need to be closed in the future. A deeper insight into working conditions will be given on the basis of existing survey data as well as qualitative interviews. In cooperation with specialist expert and experts in their own right, recommendations for survey concepts for improving the data situation on the working situation of people with impairments will be developed.
