From April 13–17, we participated in CHI 2026 in Barcelona, one of the world’s most important conferences for human-computer interaction, with over 5,000 participants from research, design, and technology.

In the workshop “Between and Beyond: Designing for Identity Complexity in HCI,”  Frauke Mörike and Jana-Sophie Effert shared their perspectives and discussed, among other things, the question of divisional personhood within the community of people with disabilities.

Five intensive days of meetups, workshops, paper sessions, and spontaneous hallway conversations offered encounters with a wide variety of people, disciplines, and research questions.

With over 5,000 participants, CHI is always a place that demonstrates just how broad and diverse the HCI community has become and how many exciting points of connection there are for our own work.

Barcelona rounded it all off perfectly: tapas, ocean views, and the evening sun served as a welcome reminder that good conferences don’t just take place in our minds, but sometimes on the beach as well.
