Two new publications have been released by the department

Over the past few days, two new articles have been published that examine vocational rehabilitation from different perspectives. In the book chapter “Digitalization as an Opportunity for People with Disabilities to Participate in the Workforce?! An Interdisciplinary Perspective in the Context of Multiple Challenges,” Christoph Burzlaff, Jana-Sophie Effert, and Frauke Mörike examine the extent to which digitalization processes offer opportunities for people with disabilities. They identify vocational rehabilitation as a relevant starting point for teaching digital skills and, at the same time, highlight the importance of implementing legislative frameworks to promote (digital) accessibility. Special thanks go to Maren Heibges, Christine Schmid, and Markus Feufel for editing the interdisciplinary book titled “Inclusive Digitalization: An Interdisciplinary Textbook.” The book is freely available in German at: https://api-depositonce.tu-berlin.de/server/api/core/bitstreams/e1258c91-ab30-4546-a18f-aec8a5c6eab5/content
Furthermore, in a paper published in the proceedings of the 2025 Inclusion Researchers’ Conference in Cologne, Christoph Burzlaff and Frauke Mörike examine whether digitization processes in vocational rehabilitation centers—as specific settings for vocational rehabilitation—are intended to bring about transformational processes. The paper “Digitalization in Vocational Rehabilitation Centers as a Disruption of the Status Quo? A Consideration of the Structural Framework for Teaching Digital Skills in Light of Transformational Processes in the World of Work” shows that vocational rehabilitation centers attach great importance to digital skills, yet the teaching of these skills is shaped by infrastructural requirements and the heterogeneity of the clientele.
