Doctoral Projects

One of the goals of workshops for people with disabilities (WfbM) is to facilitate transitions to the general labor market. In practice, however, this transition is rarely successful. Very little is known about how transitions are structured for people with mental health conditions, even though they represent a steadily growing group within WfbM.

This doctoral project therefore examines how transitions unfold for people with mental health conditions and which factors facilitate or hinder them. The focus is on the perspectives of:

  • people with mental health conditions
  • educational professionals involved in the transition process
  • representatives of the general labor market

The goal of this doctoral project is to develop an in-depth, multi-perspective understanding of how transitions are structured in order to improve employment opportunities for people with mental health challenges outside of sheltered workshops.

The doctoral research will be conducted at TU Dortmund University as part of the research project “Work—the Way I Want It!”
